Fishguard Karate Club (or) Higashi Karate Kai Wales as it’s better known has been instructed by Chief Instructor Jon Dunn since 1986. Jon is a 6th Dan and has a real passion for karate. Our style of karate is Wado-Ryu.
Originally based in Fishguard, however our main Dojo (training area) is at Letterston Memorial Hall. We tend to train for one and a half hours every Sunday but we also have additional courses both home and away. Some courses can last four hours, some can last for six hours every day for three days. It’s totally optional for our students to attend any lessons, courses or competitions, although once they reach senior grades they are expected to attend certain courses.
We are Affiliated to Higashi Karate Kai (HKK) (Peter Spanton, R.I.P) which has been in operation for more than 40 years. HKK started in 1968 and now has over 1,000 students in more than 20 clubs and is in full membership in the European Karate Federation and the World Karate Federation.
Although our style is traditionally Wado-Ryu, we do occasionally train with other styles and also train using real life situations.
In our Association, you’re focused on throughout every training session, whether you’re a white belt or a black belt.
